bird seed breakfasts and pseudo-veganism

this week has brought a few exciting things to the table (pun intended, as always). i decided there were enough random bulk bags of seeds, nuts and dried fruit in my cupboards to make "bird seed" granola. it's a little different than my previous recipe, but the concept is the same. i used honey because i'm fresh out of agave nectar. i also added dried apples and a few shakes of cinnamon to the mix. this batch yielded seven delicious cups of granola, so i've been enjoying bird seed for breakfast every morning this week!

in an effort to clean up my diet (armed with skinny bitch and a conveniently close proximity to the farmers' market) i've gone on a pseudo-vegan diet. pseudo because i still wanted to have protein shakes, include honey in my recipes, and add a splash of cream to my (occasional) coffee. and vegan because i wanted to eat primarily veggies, fruits, legumes, and whole grains--sans gluten, of course--to detoxify my system.

i've been stuffing my face with peaches, cucumbers and hummus, and i've become outrageously addicted to truelemon raspberry lemonade. it's a "crystallized citrus" flavor packet for water, but without the unhealthy dose of aspartame, as is the case with most water flavors. the ingredient list is so short that i feel it's necessary to share this wealth of knowledge, right here and now: crystallized lemon [citric acid, lemon oil, lemon juice, ascorbic acid (vitamin c)], organic evaporated cane juice, natural raspberry flavor, rebiana (stevia), guar gum, beet juice (for color). okay, so it does contain processed soy, and i'm 99% sure it contains processed corn, but overall i'm very impressed by the lack of--ahem--crap in this product.

have you tried the truelemon products? what's your take on pseudo-veganism?
